What makes the mix so fabulous?

Well, thanks or asking! From the moment we sit down to order our seeds, each step is carefully conducted. We start with very high-quality, non-GMO seeds. We sow the seeds in our own blend of OMRI-listed (aka USDA Organic compliant) germinating soil mixes from reputable companies. From the moment the seeds germinate, they are carefully tended.

The trays are moved to a “hardening-off” space for a few days before the plants are transplanted into the field, where they are cultivated regularly to allow for proper airflow within the soil and weed maintenance along the beds.

We only water our beds once, when they’re planted, and then only in the event of drought. The soil in our fields has been intentionally nourished and cultivated for decades, and is rich in organic matter. The soil naturally holds sufficient moisture to allow for robust plant growth, so we are essentially dry farming. This method of farming not only reduces our energetic output and reliance on external resources, but it bolsters resilient, vibrant plant growth above and below the surface of the soil. When plants are watered regularly, the roots don’t have to travel far or work too hard to find moisture. However, just as with muscles in a human body, hard work for plant roots pays off. To find moisture that is stored underground, plants send strong, deep roots down and out, which not only find the moisture they seek, but also collect minerals and nutrients as they go. For this reason, our produce is generally highly nutrient-dense.

Another benefit of dry farming, is that the produce we grow has lower water content than your average vegetables, which means the texture and shelf-life are great, and the flavor is more potent than that of other vegetables.

To preserve the quality of our salad mix, we are careful to harvest it only at the right times of day, when the heat of the Sun has not wilted the leaves. The harvest goes straight into the cooler or directly into cold water to be washed. To wash the greens, we fill a trough-sized tub with our mountain’s own spring water, agitate the greens by way of a jacuzzi blower, and then transfer the washed greens into a top-loading washing machine that we’ve converted into an industrial-size greens spinner.

For sale here is a 2-pound bag of washed & dried salad mix, ready for you to toss with your favorite fixin’s and serve to your family. And, if you don’t use it all right away, you’ll have at least 2 weeks (up to a month, actually) to enjoy the rest.
